Should You Really Use Mouthwash?
Although mouthwash is readily available in the dental sections of most grocery stores, it is not actually necessary to use in your everyday oral health routine. So, it may not be totally necessary, but you should at least debate the pros and cons of adding the process to your morning and afternoon routines.
Like anyone getting news, we will start with the bad first and work our way through to the good news.
Con #1: Mouthwash can wash off the fluoride left behind by the toothpaste and with it the positive effects of the toothpaste in general.
This con can easily be solved by spacing out the use of the mouthwash from the toothpaste.
*Fun Fact: Fluoride helps fight against tooth Decay
Con #2: Alcohol in mouthwash can cause a burning sensation after use and dry the mouth out
Over time you may get used to the burning sensation, but if you don’t do not panic! There are several alcohol free mouthwashes to choose from to eliminate that con all together. You should see your dentist about using alcohol mouthwash to avoid other oral issues.
Con #3: Mouthwash may irritate canker sores
If the alcohol content of your mouth is high, mouthwash may cause irritation. Try to stick with non alcohol mouth wash to avoid this problem or you may need to skip this step until further notice:(
Con #4: It only masks bad breath
Mouth wash is not a replacement for brushing your teeth, and fresh breath may be short lived after usage. Try to stay aware of your breath and don’t strictly rely on mouthwash as a solve all.
I know what you may be thinking, mouth was is a total waste of time and you do not need it in your life, but keep reading and maybe you will reconsider!
